This author has worked with chemically dependent teenagers for thirty years and is the director of the Touch Love Center in Fargo, North Dakota. A licensed addiction counselor with a Master's Degree, he holds a level II certification from the National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors.   • Love First by Jeff and Debra Jay-"A new approach to Intervention for Alcoholism & Drug Addiction." Any concept that has proven to alter the destructive behavior of adolescents is worth investigating. I found this concept (intervention) to be a very viable tool for any family (see section on local counselors for referral).
  • Codependent No More by Melody Beattie "How to Stop Controlling Others and Start Caring for Yourself" You must read this book and study it's principles if there is any hope in adverting your child from the "lifelong" disease of addiction.
  • Relief For Hurting Parents "How to Fight for the Lives of Teenagers" This Christian based book is very helpful in understanding how the child thinks and what parents can do to interpret the language and thought processes of a child abusing alcohol and/or drugs.
  • Beyond the Influence by Katherie Ketcham "This is the best book I have ever read on the subject of alcohol/drug abuse."-Pat Nichols
  • Teens: Under The Influence by Katherine Ketcham The Truth About Kids, Alcohol, and other drugs - How to recognize the problem and what to do about it. This "new" book is a must read for any parent(s) who has a teen abusing alcohol and/or other drugs. I found this book to be cheaper at the Best of Book store (340-9202) in Edmond (Kickingbird Sguare, NW corner of Danforth and Bryant). I called the book store and they said if you tell them you got this email and/or that you support Parents Helping Parents they will give a 15% discount.
