Where Your Child Hides Drugs
Intravenous Drugs
If your kid is using a syringe he/she will probably be using one of your tablespoons in order to break up the dope. You should be looking for a spoon that is bent, one that doesn't sit flat.
Then, look for discoloration from the drug residue in the bottom of the spoon. The color will be different from dish washer residue, you'll be able to notice the difference.
Your kid only needs three things to use his/her dope--water, spoon or a soda can; some kids will use the bottom of a soda can notice the indention). If the lettering and numbers are not clearly visible, then suspect that the can has been used to break down the dope.
If you notice a bunch of water being left in the child's room (like several cups laying around) and he/she never much cared for water before, then suspect drugs.
The bathroom is the number one place a kid will use this type of drug. It's private and no one wants to walk into a bathroom when it is occupied. If the kid goes into the bathroom too frequently or takes an unusually long time taking a bath or whatever, suspect drugs.
A great place to hide a syringe is in the bathroom. Look inside the cylinder that the toilet paper fits on. Also, look under the toilet bowl tank and see if it is taped underneath the tank or see if there is a sandwich bag all taped up and fitted on the bottom of the tank.
Check out the wall plate on the light switches, if the screws show excess wear and/or scratches, take the plate off and look inside. If you find a bunch of tape in your kid's room, start looking in the light fixtures and underneath dressers or wherever he/she might tape their drugs to. Another great place is the heating/air vents. In addition look in the throw pillows, this is a common hiding place. Look under the bed in the center of the box springs, many users call this the "safe."
The kid's bedroom is the most favorite place of course. If you see a change in the type of music the child listens to (heavy metal indicates they are using meth, LSD, ecstasy or cocaine. If they are listening to Rap, suspect crack and/or marijuana) if they are dressing differently, their hairstyle and/or color of their hair suddenly changes in a manner that surprises you. You will also find a fixation on death, skulls etc. If your child starts smoking -- suspect drugs (rarely does a child start smoking and isn't using drugs). If the child changes friends and his/her grades drop -- suspect drugs. If you get calls from the school regarding attendance -- suspect drugs.
Crack Cocaine
Your kid will need "brillo" pads and some kind of glass tube to smoke the crack with. Look for a glass tube with dark residue inside it along with a "brillo" pad (the pad is used as a filtering device). If your "brillo" pads are getting used up real quick or if you suddenly discover a box or boxes of "brillo" pads--suspect drugs. If you find a piece of wire (similar to the pipe cleaner types), possibly with a loop on the end of it (this is used to pack the "brillo" pad with). If you walk in your child's room and he/she is on their hands and knees on the floor trying to "pick" up something check their eyes and see if they are dilated, if they are -- suspect drugs. For some reason crack users always think they have dropped some of their drugs on the floor.
Hiding places for the crack pipe: is there a can on a desk with a bunch of pens? Look there, if you don't find a glass pipe then investigate the pen cylinders.
Alcohol
Lock up your liquor cabinets. Believe it or not, you will never know that your kid is abusing alcohol. He/she will drink your booze and you won't have a clue. If your kid is abusing alcohol and/or drugs it is strongly suggested that you remove all alcohol from your home and lock up your prescription drugs.
Marijuana
You might check out the back yard as this is a common place for your child and his/her friends to smoke marijuana. Look for a secluded area and then look for small cigarettelooking rolled paper without filters.
Miscellaneous
Another favorite hiding place is behind the dryer in the vent that takes the lint outside. Look in TV's, radio's and any electronic device that has batteries. The battery compartment is a common hiding place for drugs.
Any device or furniture that has a possible hollow portion is an ideal hiding spot. For example, take a lamp or desk fan with a hollow neck that can be unscrewed.
The store called Spencer's at the mall sells all kinds of products that kid's buy in which they can hide drugs. For example, they sell very real looking soda, soap, shaving cream cans, etc., in which the bottom comes off and inside is a hollow bottom to hide the drugs.
All these cans are "real," they actually have soda in the soda cans and shaving cream in the shaving can, so don't be fooled. Kids will use duct tape and tape their drugs underneath anything that you would probably not think to look. For example, in a top cabinet there is about an inch of space on either the right or left side, look there.
