It has taken us almost two years to get this law passed/amended but on 4/27/05 the Governor signed HB1425 which prohibits a child who is 16 or older from overriding (“refusing or revoking”) your authority as his/her parent(s)/legal guardian to have him/her placed in an in-patient treatment program.
I would recommend you cut and paste the following address (http://www.sos.state.ok.us/documents/Legislation/50th/2005/1R/HB/1425.pdf) in your browser and print out a copy of this bill as it has other detailed information regarding your rights as a parent(s) and the responsibilities of others. Please keep this information for future reference as many people do not understand the laws and will inadvertently mislead you. However, if you have a copy of the law you can show it to the police officer or the emergency detention personnel etc.
